Position Summary
The Director of Healthcare Technology is responsible for leading, scaling, and optimizing the organization’s biomedical and healthcare technology services. This role provides strategic direction, operational leadership, and technical oversight of all biomedical equipment management activities while building a high-performing team that ensures safe, compliant, and reliable medical device operations for our healthcare clients.
This leader will oversee the two current Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMETs), establish standardized processes, drive performance metrics, and partner cross-functionally with Operations, IT, Compliance, and Finance to support growth and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide strategic direction for the Healthcare Technology / Biomedical program aligned with company growth objectives.
- Develop short- and long-term roadmaps for service delivery, staffing, training, and technology investments.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for biomedical operations and healthcare technology services.
People Management
- Directly manage, mentor, and develop BMET staff.
- Establish performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and create development plans.
- Lead recruiting, onboarding, and training for future biomedical hires.
Operations & Service Delivery
- Oversee maintenance, repair, calibration, and lifecycle management of medical equipment.
- Ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM).
- Standardize workflows, documentation, and reporting processes.
- Monitor workload distribution and resource utilization.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, FDA, NFPA, AAMI).
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and equipment records.
- Develop and enforce safety, quality, and infection control practices.
Financial & Asset Management
- Manage biomedical budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships.
- Analyze cost drivers and implement cost-effective service strategies.
- Oversee asset inventories, replacement planning, and capital forecasting.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with IT on integrated clinical systems and networked medical devices.
- Work with Operations and Compliance teams to support contracts and client requirements.
- Support sales and business development with technical input when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of progressive experience in biomedical / healthcare technology services.
- 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of medical device regulations and accreditation standards.
- Experience managing teams, budgets, and vendor relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or MBA.
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE), or similar credential.
- Experience supporting multi-site or contract-based healthcare operations.
- Experience scaling programs in a growing organization.
